During his tenure at Vanity Fair magazine, photographer Edward Steichen created celebrity portraits that conveyed his subjects’ charisma and worldliness. In this 1925 image of actor Charlie Chaplin, Steichen captured the mischievous charm of a man whose best-known film character -- “The Tramp,” a vagrant with the refined manners of a gentleman -- delighted millions of filmgoers worldwide.
