The telescope was launched in 1990, but four servicing missions by space shuttles significantly enhanced its original capabilities. This space-based observatory provides unprecedented deep and clear views of the universe, ranging from Earth’s solar system to extremely remote fledgling galaxies forming nearly 13.7 billion years ago.
