1921 - Rudolph Valentino becomes a screen sensation
Italian-born Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello had a brief but colorful career in Hollywood as Rudolph Valentino. He danced his way into the hearts of American women with his passionate tango in the 1921 film The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and followed this success with his iconic roles in The Sheikh and The Son of the Sheikh. Five years after his breakout performance in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he died of a perforated ulcer at the age 31. (© AP Images)
