1913 - Charlie Chaplin begins a legendary Hollywood career
Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr. was born April 16, 1889, into an English vaudeville family and made his first stage appearance at age 5. He debuted on the New York music hall stage in 1910 and moved to Hollywood three years later to become involved in the nascent film industry. His prolific career spanned more than five decades and more than 80 films, including The Kid, The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times and The Great Dictator. (© AP Images)
