Jefferson Pinder is a filmmaker who regards his art as a form of sampling -- mixing and remixing his own experience with that of others. His work reflects his interest in hip-hop culture and African-American identity. In this still image from his video Mule, Pinder is shown pulling a heavy object down a city street, literally dragging the weight of his own struggles as he laboriously moves forward.
