Tracy Lauren Morrow, better known by his stage name Ice T, was instrumental in creating the “gangsta rap” subgenre of hip-hop music. One of the leading figures on the West Coast rap scene, Ice T is a musician, an author, an actor and a former U.S. Army soldier. In this portrait by painter Kehinde Wiley, Ice T is posed as the French emperor Napoleon from a famous 1806 portrait by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.
