The Salt Lake City Temple in Utah is the largest temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as Mormonism. Mormon leader Brigham Young presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the building in 1853 and laid its cornerstone. The structure is rich with symbolism, including a statue of the angel Moroni, pairs of clasped hands representing fellowship and covenant-making, and a depiction of the Big Dipper constellation.
