The Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois, is one of only seven Bahá’í temples in the world. The Wilmette structure consists of nine sides -- symbolizing unity -- as well as a dome, and is surrounded by gardens and fountains. The groundbreaking ceremony for the temple took place May 1, 1912, and included ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, son of the founder of the Bahá’í faith. (© AP Images)
