The Klamath Basin is a vital stop for migrating birds, such as these tundra swans, on the Pacific Flyway. The Basin extends from northern California to southern Oregon and encompasses six national parks that protect more than 400 species of wildlife in a variety of habitats: wetlands, open water, coniferous forest and grasslands.
Privately owned land in the Klamath Basin supports farmers, many using sustainable practices, but agricultural water use and its effect on salmon fisheries remain controversial. American Indian tribes also have rights and interests in the area. (© AP Images)
