15 percent were born outside the United States

Workers born outside the United States made up more than 15 percent of U.S. workers in 2006, and their numbers are increasing. Such workers are more likely than the overall work force to be male and to be under age 54. In addition, 50 percent of these workers are Hispanic and 22 percent are Asian. (© AP Images)
