Robert Novak, Associated Press staff reporter, is shown at work in the Senate Press Gallery in Washington, August 18, 1958. In 1873, E. Remington & Sons began manufacture of its first typewriters, which for the first time allowed journalists to generate news stories more quickly than they could write the story by hand.
