African Health, Education Emphasis of Laura Bush Trip

Laura Bush talks to a child

Anti-malaria programs were high on Laura Bush’s agenda. She visits a mosquito spraying site in Mozal, Mozambique, June 27, and later distributes mosquito nets and educational pamphlets, while Jenna gave presents to Mozal’s children.

More than $200 million of the MCC grant money will assist malaria eradication by installing water wells and cleaning up mosquito breeding grounds.

Bush toured facilities of the Inter-Religious Campaign Against Malaria, which partners with the Washington National Cathedral and the Adventist Development Relief Agency to educate the community and train health workers, aiming to benefit 1.6 million people in the next three years.
