Photographs of Longstanding Diplomatic Ties to be Displayed in Isparta
Ambassador James Jeffrey presented former President Demirel with six framed photographs from the ‘Between Friends’ photograph exhibit, which will be displayed in Demirel’s presidential museum in Isparta. The six photos show the former Turkish president meeting with several different American presidents. President Demırel attended the opening of the exhibit in January 2007 and subsequently requested the photos for his museum. The ‘Between Friends’ photo exhibit, produced and co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, includes 48 photos taken between 1922 and 2006, collected from U.S. and Turkish archives, including some from U.S. presidential libraries. The exhibit illustrates the deep and continuing friendship between the U.S. and Turkey. The photos document the relationship from the Ataturk era to the present, with pictures of Turkish delegations meeting with every president from Dwight D. Eisenhower to George W. Bush.
At the presentation of the photos, President Demirel said, “Relations between the U.S. and Turkey are important to the stability of the region and to world peace.” Ambassador Jeffrey emphasized, “The close friendship between our two countries will continue.”
