Untitled Vapor Drawing (#MELGLB2)

Larry Bell was born in Chicago in 1939 and studied at the Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts) in Los Angeles. He was part of a group of artists of the “Light and Space” movement, which also included Robert Irwin and James Turrell. His work specifically addresses how the advances of modern technology have changed the ways in which humans interact, on both the physical and psychic plane. Bell’s work focuses on the perception of light and color. Working with a minimum of materials the artist explores the optical effects of light, and how light strikes a surface. He alters the perceptions of the viewer and challenges our relation to physical space.
