The Four Seasons has long been a theme for musical, artistic, and literary expression. Ellingson has approached this theme as an exploration of pattern, repetition and how her own perception of time fluctuates as the seasons progress. As a California native, Ellingson has
little awareness of the extreme seasonal changes that occur in other climates, but she does have psychological, physical, and emotional memories of recurring events associated with various times of the year.
