Born in Ann Arbor, MI, Faruqee currently lives in Chicago. Her work explores the possibility of
decoration as a theme. Her inspiration comes from Islamic decorative principles and tile
designs. She sees Islamic art as the main “mover” of abstraction because of the religion’s
figurative ban. Her work combines and balances East and West, and focuses on decoration
as an unusual model for abstraction.
