U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice concluded a visit to Warsaw to sign a formal agreement with Poland on behalf of the United States for the establishment and operation of a ballistic missile defense interceptor site in Poland. The Ballistic Missile Defense Agreement was signed by Secretary Rice and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in the Prime Minister's Chancellery. Speaking at the signing ceremony were Polish President Lech Kaczynski, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Secretary Rice. In her remarks Secretary Rice stressed that the BMD deepens the bilateral strategic relationship between U.S. and Poland and that this cooperation will make a substantial contribution to NATO's collective security. After signing Ballistic Missile Defense Agreement, the United States and Poland issued a Declaration on Strategic Cooperation Between the United States of America and the Republic of Poland, calling for elevating the already close U.S.-Poland security and defense cooperation relationship to a new and higher level.
