Lt. General Henry A. “Trey” Obering III, Director of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency visited Poland October 29-30 with Deputy Director of MDA Maj. General Patrick O’Reilly, who will replace General Obering as Director on November 22. The generals traveled with Polish military officials to Slupsk and Redzikowo on October 29 to visit the site of future Missile Defense facility and to meet with local leaders and residents. In Warsaw on October 30, the generals met with senior officials of the Polish Foreign and Defense ministries over breakfast at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe and with Sejm deputies over lunch hosted by Embassy officials. General Obering also delivered a talk entitled “Update on the Missile Defense Program” in a public seminar at Szkoła Główna Handlowa arranged by the Embassy and the Center for International Relations, chaired by the Center’s Eugeniusz Smolar. General Obering departed Poland after the lunch and General O’Reilly remained to give interviews for the Polish and international press and television before his evening flight.
