Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw held an official ceremony on Monday, January 12, to launch a year of celebrations commemorating the 90th Anniversary of U.S.-Polish diplomatic relations, announced Chuck Ashley, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw. The day’s events began with a private lunch for dignitaries hosted by the U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, at his Warsaw residence. The official ceremony took place in the early afternoon at Pałac Przeździeckich (ul. Foksal 6) and involved an exchange of diplomatic notes and symbolic gifts. Ambassador Ashe presented a commemorative book to Radosław Sikorski, Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who gave Ambassador Ashe a coin issued by the National Bank of Poland commemorating 400 years of Polish emigration to America. Minister Sikorski also unveiled to the public a new book on the 90th Anniversary prepared by the Foreign Ministry with support from the US Embassy. Natalia Pastewska, a Polish singer and student interning at the Embassy, sang the Polish and U.S. national anthems at the start of the official ceremony, which was heavily attended by the media.
