The U.S. Embassy in Warsaw arranged and sponsored a NATO tour to Brussels and the United Kingdom for six Polish parliamentarians from April 14-17. The members of Poland’s sejm (parliament) represented a broad spectrum of political parties. The delegation visited NATO headquarters in Brussels; JCF headquarters in Brunnsum, The Netherlands; London and RAF Alconbury in the United Kingdom. The focus of the trip was to provide background on the European missile defense basing proposal and its relation to NATO; the stop in the UK allowed members to visit a military facility, and hear briefings from local officials and community leaders about the impact of such a facility on the community. Other briefings provided an overview of NATO’s command and operating structure and details of NATO’s ISAF operations in Afghanistan. Members of parliament on the trip included: Waldemar Andzel (PiS), Mariusz Kaminski (PiS), Michal Marcinkiewicz (PO), Cezary Tomczyk (PO), Bronislaw Dutka (PSL) and Tomasz Kaminski (LiD). They were accompanied throughout the trip by Embassy Press Attache Andrew Schilling.
