Embassy Staff Observe the 5th Anniversary of September 11: On Monday, September 11th, 2006, the Embassy of the United States in Moscow marked the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States with a ceremony for Embassy employees. This ceremony took place on the Embassy compound at 12:00pm. Ambassador William J. Burns led a gathering of American and Russian employees in a moment of silence and reflection in honor of the nearly 3,000 people killed on that day. Earlier in the day Ambassador Burns addressed a Memorial Service at the Church of St. Catherine the Great Martyr to mark the fifth anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
