IRC participated in the 44th Turkish Library Week by organizing a series of lectures on Internet Literacy for primary and high school students from 11 schools at 7 different locations in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Istanbul Directorate. Senior English Language Fellow Michael C. Witbeck gave presentations at these programs that were designed to support the ongoing Information Literacy Project that IRC was been instrumental in initiating, and with which IRC continues to be very intensely involved. Mr. Witbeck engaged students with a quiz on their internet literacy during his interactive presentation. A translated version of his presentation and a questionnaire were distributed to students. These seven programs were announced on the official library week web site and brochure, so a large number of university students, librarians, teachers and officials was also able to attend them. Such a series of lectures gave students an opportunity to create a better understanding of tomorrow's literate democratic society and to become lifelong learners.
