Consul General Wiener gave an opening speech at the "Teaching Tolerence Through English" camp 2009 which has being held at a private high school in Canakkale. Collaborated with The State Department, the Turkish Education Association and Canakkale Private High School, the students are participating in a groundbreaking program to develop intercultural empathy and understanding among students from Turkey, Armenia and the United States. After the opening session, Consul General Wiener joined the students' workshop called "expectation circle" and shared her own personal experiences as a teen-aged exchange student abroad.
