Secretary Rice Hosts Commemoration of 50th Anniversary Year of the Hungarian Revolution

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice hosted a ceremony and reception to commemorate the 50th anniversary year of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution on Monday, February 13, 2006 in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the U.S. Department of State. Secretary Rice made brief remarks about the Hungarian Revolution and the freedom fighters who inspired the world with their courage. Other speakers taking part in the ceremony included Under Secretary of State R. Nicholas Burns, Representative Tom Lantos (D-CA); Ambassador of Hungary to the United States AndrĂ¡s Simonyi; Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington; Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Appeal of Conscience Foundation; Reverend G. Wilson Gunn, General Presbyter, National Capital Presbytery; and Dr. Allen Weinstein, Archivist of the United States.
