April 25, 2007. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier for bilateral consultations. Secretary Gates then made his inaugural visit to the German Ministery of Defense to hold discussions with German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung. A military honor guard welcomed Secretary Gates to the Defense Ministery. The two officials discussed, among other things, missile defense, NATO deployments in Kosovo and Afghanistan, and other issues of common concern. After their meeting they held a joint press conference.
