The spirit of the airlift carried by the young generation
As part of the major airlift commemoration ceremony at the Airlift memorial at Frankfurt airport, young students were honored for their innovative ideas how to bring an understanding of the airlift to the younger generation. The winners of the competition "Ueber Brücken - Uberbrücken" were called on the stage where they received their prizes. The first prize, a trip to Berlin, goes to 13th graders of Engelsburg Gymnasium Kassel, who delevoped the game airlift ; the second prize was awarded to Aukamm Elementary School Nauheim Grundschule for their joint film project enhancing their exchange relationship; the third prize was received buy students of Wiesbaden High School for their creation of a webpage on the airlift. The competition is a key element of the Understanding project between the City of Frankfurt and the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt.The goal of the program is to further mutual understanding and bring together both Frankfurt and American youth living in the region. After the ceremony, the kids enjoyed talking to Gail Halverson and the other veterans about their experiences during the airlift.
