Since the conclusion of war that ravaged Kosovo, the United States government has worked with Kosovars to help rebuild their shattered province. Roads are being rebuilt, homes are being reconstructed, schools are being repaired. The progress is measurable and obvious. But some kinds of progress may be missed at first glance--such as the increase in civic participation and the development of an engaged and vibrant non-governmental (NGO) community. While much work remains, this photo gallery demonstrates some of the progress Kosovo has made in one year. All projects featured in the photos have been funded by the United States government.
